Security is a huge concern for many of us in, and around the outside of our homes. Getting through the door to our homes safely, without tripping or slipping, being able to find our keys in our bags – and of course, deterring potential intruders – they are all issues that we want to resolve when we move into a new property, or when the issue becomes apparent in the darker winter months.

While movement-detecting floodlights, or lights that stayed on all night were the two options for a long time, today there are far more options for lighting up the outside of your home. While you can certainly still use floodlights if they’re right for your home, there are other stylish options, such as wall lanterns, up and down lights, and post lights – so your security lights can take care of making your property look great as well.

Powering your security lights is simplest with mains power, but ensuring lights get switched off when they aren’t needed can be hit and miss. That’s why many of our security lights have dusk to dawn sensors, so that you don’t need to remember to switch lights off in the morning, or waste electricity with lights being switched on all day.

Where you need to be able to add security lighting to spaces around your home and garden that are difficult to get mains power to, solar security lights are now an option – as long as the solar panel gets enough sun during the day. Solar lights tend to make use of LED bulbs, which need far less power to provide the amounts of brightness that security lights need, and since they have PIR sensors, the power is stored for when it is needed.
