There are huge benefits to finding the right garage lighting. With property and living space at a premium many of us are not using our garages for their original purpose.

There are many different reasons to install lighting in or around your garage from the basic necessity of safety when getting out of your car to security lighting to protect your vehicle. Let’s take a look at some of the options available.

Security Lighting

When you arrive home after dark and pull up in your driveway, a light that activates automatically outside your garage can be extremely helpful allowing you to see clearly when opening your garage doors. A bulkhead such as the Night Eye LED Bulkhead – PIR has a 7 metre and 140 degree detection range and can stay illuminated for up to ten minutes giving you ample time to park the car. The PIR sensor can act as an added deterrent against intruders.

If you have a top of the range car that is your pride and joy parked in your garage or driveway then you may well require an even higher level of security. Check out the Guard-Cam LED Security Floodlight an all-in-one PIR floodlight, camera, speaker and DVR security system for added protection.

Decorative Lighting

First impressions count and the garage lighting at the entrance to your property can reflect the style of your home. Decorative outdoor wall lights can be an attractive feature and if you choose one which uses the latest in energy saving LED technology, such as the Vega LED Wall Light they won’t cost too much to run. This wall light with its smart matt black finish will bring contemporary style to your exterior space whilst providing added security outside your garage.

DIY Workshop

Many garages aren’t used for the car at all and almost become an additional room to the home. Perhaps you enjoy spending time tinkering in the garage on DIY projects surrounded by nuts and bolts, or maybe you use your garage for storage?

Whatever its use, garage lighting needs to be bright and sharp as you are likely to have minimal or no natural daylight in this area. Today’s fluorescent lighting is flicker free and starts instantly. Take the T8 Weatherproof Fluorescent Fitting as a great example of a robust light which can be used indoors or outdoors and has a superior light output ideal for use in your garage. As the garage can be subject to moisture, remember to always choose garage lighting with an IP rating suitable for outdoor use.

Outside Den

Turning a garage into an outside den can be a smart move if you have teenagers in the house who all crave extra space. Setting up a games room with a pool table or installing a drum kit for a budding young musician can be a big hit. For the perfect garage lighting why not try an IP44 rated contemporary spotlight bar such as the polished chrome Aries 4 Light Bar with fully adjustable spotlight heads which can be independently positioned.

You may also choose to keep your white goods in the garage to free up space in your kitchen. Waterproof sockets such as the Outdoor 1 Gang 13 Amp Socket – IP55 are a completely safe way to supply power to a garage which could potentially have a lot of moisture in the atmosphere.

To get the optimum use from your garage don’t underestimate the importance of the right lighting.
