The story of Hinkley Lighting began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley founded the eponymous Phil R. Hinkley Company in Cleveland, Ohio. Initially, the company specialised in outdoor copper lanterns and included just fourteen products in its debut catalogue.

Since the late 1930s, Hinkley has been owned by the Wiedemer family. A fourth generation has joined the company and Richard Wiedemer Jr, of the third generation, is its president. During the 1970s, the company name became Hinkley Lighting, keeping alive the memory of its founder while retaining a well-earned reputation for excellence.

In 2007, Hinkley acquired an upmarket lighting company called Frederick Ramond and diversified into luxury lighting products. In the 90-plus years since it began, Hinkley has become a global brand, offering a broad selection of indoor and outdoor light fittings that have only unwavering quality and engaging design in common.

Hinkley’s philosophy is to merge the boundaries of lighting, art, and fashion and create desirable luminaires that reflect your lifestyle and personality. Its signature tagline is ‘Life Aglow’, which summarises the company ethos. Look for products from this veteran lighting designer and maker whenever you want a distinctive, stylish light fitting.
