Bedroom
The bedroom is one of the rooms in the house where people spend a lot of time; therefore it is vital that the chosen lighting caters for all your needs. Whether you spend most of your time in reading, sleeping, dressing, watching TV or browsing the internet getting the right lighting will create the right setting.
Individuals need to make sure that the lights chosen are flexible and can be adjusted to various levels for different tasks and occupants of the room – teens, adults, elderly, babies.
A dimmer light should be applied as the main light in the room as the level can be altered to be low most of the time and high when certain tasks are conducted. Although being the main lighting, other lighting's will be required for various other functions.
If an individual spends a lot of their time reading then a table lamp, desk lamp or wall light can be used to aid an individual for obtaining direct light. Whereas when a room is shared with a partner then double reading table or wall lights may be required.
Floor lamps are great for high and direct lighting such as lighting for getting dressed. They are flexible to move around allowing you to easily change the layout of your room.
Having lights in your closet will help in finding clothing in darker environments. A safe option for lighting up cupboards would be to add some low energy battery lights that wont cause fire to your clothes!
Finding bedroom lighting may not be easy but can be fun as you coordinate your lighting choices to your existing room decor.
Study Room
Good lighting in a study area is vital for direct focus in aiding reading and writing. The lighting should be adjusted properly so that it does not strain the eyes. Enough illumination can be achieved by placing desk lamps in a way that the light falls directly onto an open page. If considering light for the computer then place it behind, so that it does not strain the eyes providing proper quality and quantity of illumination.
When considering lighting for the study room, natural lighting is usually best as it prevents eye strain while reading and writing. Recessed lighting can provide good illumination while pendant fixtures can give just enough lighting onto your worktop. The positioning of these lights is vital in ensuring that the area required is targeted without straining the eyes, creating shadows or glare. When using a computer try to ensure that the lighting is focused on the wall behind the computer to avoid eyes being strained.
Children's Room
With children’s rooms lighting safety comes first while allowing for change and flexibility, as they grow older. There is a variety of fun, creative lighting for kids ranging from airplanes, carousels and some with cartoon characters. The positioning of table lamps, floor lamps and wall lights should be positioned that switches and cables cannot be reached. Safe options to be used can be fixed lights, as they cannot be knocked over and are out of the way or adjustable spotlights that be rotated or focused for any desired area.
As children get older they require more lighting for the advance tasks conducted such as reading/writing their homework or using the Internet. In that case desk lights are required to create direct light to help prevent eye strain. Always read the children’s lighting instructions so that you know what to look for in terms of safety.
